tides is a body on earth, spinning in a sea of other bodies ~~

i began studying & practicing astrology in the early 2000s, and rest + movement practices from the age of 3. both have brightened my life, which is my inspiration for sharing in them with others. i’m grateful for the long lineages of teachers & students that inspire me to continue exploring & learning about earthly bodies, celestial bodies, & the myriad connections between them.

it’s a sincere aim on my part to engage with these practices respectfully; with care of how racism & colonization have impacted how i/we encounter them. i am appreciative of feedback, conversation, & curiosity in this realm.

among other things, rest + movement offers us ways to attune with our nervous systems; astrology offers us a doorway into compassion for ourselves & others; both invite us to grow our awareness. an attuned nervous system, compassion, & awareness are some great gifts we can offer each other as we endeavor to navigate the times we’re in & dream up new ones.

astrology:

astrology is a way of being with time (among other things). i am pretty mesmerized by time.

i tend to use the tropical zodiac & whole-sign house system, though i also like to explore others. i relate primarily with the seven visible planetary bodies (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter & Saturn) + our more far-afield celestial companions (Uranus, Neptune & Pluto). i’m eager to become better acquainted with the asteroids. i look at sect (which distinguishes between day & night charts), the placement of the nodes, & have a growing awareness of the fixed stars. i use timing techniques such as annual profections, secondary progressions, & transits, and weave in my relationships with myth, archetype, story, intuition, tarot, & dreams.

i appreciate astrology for offering us the reminder that we are both a part of, & wholly witnessed by, something vast & wild. i aim to be with astrological study in a way that is functional, inspiring, honest, & affirming, and am committed to continuing my own studies & learning. i relish knowing that one lifetime — perhaps many — would not be sufficient to grapple with all the mysteries astrology contains.

rest + movement:

a practice, largely informed by yoga, of being with space (among other things). i love space.

my rest + movement practice / teaching style are centered around accessing support & being available to what’s arising. i prioritize easefulness & aim for a balance of nourishment & challenge. my intention is to facilitate practice spaces that are supportive, open, restful & rejuvenating, where people can tune in to themselves while building their capacities for both flexibility & stability.

the branch of yoga that i have primarily spent time with & which deeply informs this practice is known in sanskrit as hatha yoga. the translation i’ve come across for hatha yoga that rings most true for me is “intimacy with life via the body/ mind”. i am choosing to mostly refer to this practice as “rest + movement”, rather than yoga, though my intention is to honor that the roots & inspirations for this rest + movement practice are to be found largely in the tradition & on-going aliveness of yoga.

i enjoy sharing this old & yet very much alive practice with others, & have experience working with elders, children, people with disabilities or limited mobility, neurodivergent practitioners, advanced & beginner students. i’m wholly committed to engaging with rest + movement in ways that actively disrupt colonialism, racism, ableism, fat-phobia, & gender-essentialism, and i continue to pursuit education which supports this aim. i enjoy co-creating spaces where we can practice together in community, as well as guiding those who are interested towards cultivating their own personal practice.

rest + movement practice continues to offer me simple ways of returning home to myself, for which i’m consistently grateful.
